Video: Azhar Ali Maiden Test Century | 100 vs Sri Lanka

A gutsy maiden century from Azhar Ali took Pakistan to 281-4 at the end of the 2nd days play in the 2nd test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium.

The 26-year-old Ali was well supported by veterans Younus Khan (55) and Misbah-ul-Haq (40 not out) after Pakistan lost both openers in the morning session and were uncertain at 64-2.

After the loss of the opening pair Azhar and Younus saw Pakistan to lunch at 95-2 and pushed Pakistan into the ascendancy in the second session. Azhar got to his 50 first, sweeping Herath fine for his sixth boundary.

Younus Khan was far more emphatic in reaching his landmark, hitting Dilshan over the midwicket ropes for a huge six. But Dilshan provided the Lankans the breakthrough just before tea when Younus dragged on as he tried to cut a sharp turning off-break

After Younis's departure Azhar found another sound partner in Misbah after the break and they put on a stand of 94. Azhar progressed confidently until he entered the nervous nineties. The magical moment finally came when the Lahore right-hander got a fine tickle on a sweep and scampered two, celebrating his achievement by holding both arms aloft before sinking to his knees to offer Sajda.

But Azhar couldn't add to his score as Dilshan claimed him to a questionable lbw decision just before close as he swept again. TV replays indicated Azhar got a big inside edge on the delivery.

Pakistan closed the days play leading Sri Lanka by 42 runs heading into the third days play.

Fabregas Called Kanoute a Terrorist

The fight between Cesc Fabregas and Sevilla's Frederic Kanoute which led to the striker being red carded is said to have been caused when Fabregas called the Sevilla striker a "terrorist" and a "puto negro de mierda," or "black piece of sh*t."

The incident happened four minutes into extra time as Sevilla and Barcelona were heading towards a 0-0 draw. A penalty on Barcelona's Andres Iniesta was called and immediately contested by many of the Sevilla players on the field. A video of the incident then shows Frederic Kanoute reacting quite suddenly to something said by Cesc Fabregas, and he attacks Fabregas, who falls to the ground and is surrounded by his teammates. Kanoute is shown a red card and leaves the field.

Spanish television media sources are reporting that the cause of Kanoute's sudden anger was Cesc Fabregas' use of a racial slur, "puto negro de mierda." Roughly translated this means "n***er piece of sh*t." Kanoute is of African descent.

Other sources are saying that in addition to the racial slur, Fabregas referred to Kanoute as a "terrorist." This is similar to an incident at the beginning of the season between fellow Barcelona player David Villa and Real Madrid's Mesut Ozil; Villa allegedly insulted Ozil's religion (Islam) and called him a Nazi (owing to his German nationality).

Chelsea 5-0 Genk Highlights Goals Video

Chelsea vs Racing Genk 5-0 Goal Highlights. With Spain striker Fernando Torres back from a domestic ban and England prospect Daniel Sturridge in the form of his life, Chelsea will have plenty of offensive firepower on display when it hosts Belgian struggler Genk in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The English giants have shown more spark and creativity going forward since the arrival of Portuguese coach Andre Villas-Boas and the signing of Spain winger Juan Mata this summer -- and Torres and Sturridge are revelling in the team's new attacking approach.

Chelsea 1-0 Genk (Meireles 7) A long range effort. Meireles isn't closed down in the centre of the pitch, about 25 yards out. He has plenty of time to find his range and skims a shot low past the keeper.

Chelsea 2-0 Genk (Torres) 11) Torres makes up for his earlier miss. He drifts into the box and finishes low past the keeper. A good finish and nice to see he wasn't put off by his earlier miss. To their credit Genk were marking Meireles, they just forgot about Torres.

Chelsea 3-0 Genk (Torres 26) Another one for Torres. OK, he's no De Bruyne but he's playing very well tonight, even if Genk are no Hereford United. He gets away from his marker in the box and places his header past the keeper.

Indycar Crash Las Vegas 2011 Video |R.I.P. Dan Wheldon

Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon died today after a massive crash during the Indy 300 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Three other riders were injured in the fiery 15-car wreck.

IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard said:
“IndyCar is very sad to announce that Dan Wheldon has passed away from unsurvivable injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family today. IndyCar, its drivers and owners, have decided to end the race. In honor of Dan Wheldon, the drivers have decided to do a five-lap salute to in his honor.”
USA Today reports that many of the drivers at the Indycar race said that the wreck that killed Wheldon was the worst they had ever seen.

Danica Patrick described the event:
“It was like a movie scene which they try to make as gnarly as possible. It was debris everywhere across the whole track, you could smell the smoke, you could see the billowing smoke on the back straight from the car. There was a chunk of fire that we were driving around. You could see cars scattered.
The crash occurred on the second turn of the 13th lap. Incidental contact sent cars flying into the air, into the walls, and into eachother. Wheldon’s car flew over a competitors car and crashed into a wall.

Ryan Briscoe said:
“I’ll tell you, I’ve never seen anything like it. The debris we all had to drive through the lap later, it looked like a war scene from Terminator or something. I mean, there were just pieces of metal and car on fire in the middle of the track with no car attached to it and just debris everywhere.”
Dan Wheldon won the Indy 500 for the second time this May. The Washington Post reports that he was airlifted from the Las Vegas track to a nearby hospital. Wheldon is the first Indycar driver to die after an on-track crash since 2006, when Paul Dana was killed during a practice session at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The remainder of the Indy300 was cancelled. But drivers returned to the track a few hours after the crash to do a five-lap tribute for Dan Wheldon.

Wheldon’s former car owner, Chip Ganassi said:
“What can you say? We’re going to miss him. Everybody in IndyCar died a little today.”
Dan Wheldon is survived by his wife Susie Behm and his two sons.

Nemanja Vidic Misses Crucial Penalty & Retires From International Football

Nemanja Vidic has played 52 minutes of football for Manchester United this season due to injury. An early return to international football has led to an eventful and poignant night for the Manchester United captain who had hoped to prove himself for the spicy looking trip to Anfield on Saturday lunchtime.

Serbia were behind to a wonder free-kick goal by Dare Vrsic, when they were awarded a penalty and Nemanja Vidic stepped up having scored a solitary two goals in 57 caps for his national team.

The miss and subsequent defeat ensured Serbia came third in Group C with Estonia sneaking into the play-off spot. A single goal would have been enough for Serbia to go through.

Initial reports floating around the interweb suggest Nemanja Vidic has given up international football, presumably in a bid to secure a return to Sir Alex Ferguson’s first team.

Dejan Stankovic also announced his retirement and with Vidic a full four years younger than the Inter Milan midfielder at 29, surely he will have a crack at Brazil 2014.

Vidic joins Manchester United team mates such as Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov in international retirement whilst it has mostly been Rio Ferdinand that has been painted as the washed up veteran.

South Africa Celebrate AFCON Qualification, Then Realise They’re Out

South Africa's national football team did a lap around the stadium and danced in front of cheering fans to celebrate making the African Cup of Nations.

Small problem: South Africa didn't qualify.

Its 0-0 draw with Sierra Leone left South Africa tied with Niger and Sierra Leone, and ahead on goal differential -- which is usually good enough to advance.

But the Confederation of African Football used head-to-head results among the three teams as a tiebreaker.

That sent Niger to the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea and left South Africa out.

"Let's hear what CAF says," coach Pitso Mosimane said in a TV interview. "Did we qualify? What do you think? If we've qualified I'm very happy.

"I don't know."

With Egypt dominating Niger in Cairo, South Africa played defensively in the second half of a scrappy match believing a draw would be sufficient.

Niger lost 3-0, and its players didn't celebrate, despite making the continental championship for the first time.

Pepe Reina Reveals Highs and Lows in New Book

Liverpool’s Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina has revealed all about the highs and lows of his career at the club in a new book serialised today by the Daily Mail. The star stopper tells of his ‘depression’ under the previous regime, and how he came close to leaving last January but was talked out of it by his wife.

“I went from elation one minute to depression the next as the realisation dawned that Liverpool were going nowhere fast,” Reina reveals in his autobiography.

“When I signed my contract in April 2010 I hoped that better times were just around the corner, a feeling that was fuelled by the promises of improvement from people at the club.

“It didn’t take me long to feel that their promises were hollow. I felt betrayed. Our owners were at war with each other, the club’s debts were spiralling out of control and a change in manager had failed to dispel the feeling that we were on the road to nowhere.

“Arsenal had made their determination to sign me clear by offering £20m, a phenomenal amount for a goalkeeper. Part of me felt that I was well within my rights to consider my future even if I did so with a heavy heart.

“When Liverpool received the bid, they rejected it. This was not because I had been told that I was too good a keeper to leave. The reason I was given was quite different – and it left me feeling down. I was told that my continued presence was crucial to the sale of the club. I was simply a bargaining chip in the sales process.

“‘I still don’t know what to think of Purslow because I understand he was there to look for new owners and to try to sell the club but ultimately he was making big football decisions that he was not qualified to make.”

Reina also dedicates a significant slice of his new publication to the battle that embroiled everyone at the club under former owners Hicks & Gillett.

“I was probably one of the loudest objectors because I believed it was important the supporters knew I was with them,’”he says.

“All I wanted the owners to do was sell up to people who could take the club forward, so I said so.

“The way I saw it, Stevie and Carra are the two principle members of our squad, the ones who the people love and if they had said something maybe it would have put Hicks and Gillett under real pressure.

“But in their view, it was more important to try to keep things as normal as possible.”

The 31-year old former Pakistani Captain, known to the cricketing world as “Boom Boom” for his aggressive stroke-play, is a quality all-rounder. A ballistic batsman and class spin bowler, it’s guaranteed Afridi will bring yet another dimension of experience and versatility to the strongly diverse Renegades line up.

The explosive right-hand batsman, Afridi boasts 1326 runs to his name with a strike rate of 157.66.

Since age 16, when he made the fastest international century at the time, he has dazzled the cricket world with feats like smashing 32 runs in a single over and it's no surprise he holds the title for the most ODI sixes in history with a total of 289. Remarkably he now considers himself a better bowler, and has the most international wickets in T20 cricket at 53.

In 2009/10 Afridi was recruited by South Australia for T20, where he played alongside Renegade recruit Shaun Tait in a stand-out season.

Growing up in a large family comprising nine siblings, amidst the chaos of a noisy household, it was those backyard games of cricket that honed his skills and developed his passion for the game.

The friendly and jovial character, like most Pakistani cricketers, looks up to Imran Khan as his role model.

The father of two also loves to get his dose of Bollywood movies claiming he is a big fan of on screen legend Sharukh Khan.
